SEO for tradies, built around calls and booked jobs.
Google Business Profile, service pages and suburb coverage for plumbers, builders, electricians and other trades. Measured in calls and enquiries, with no ranking promises.
Why SEO for tradies is local and urgent
Most trade searches start with a problem. A burst pipe, a tripped switchboard, a leaking roof or a renovation that needs a builder. The person searching wants someone nearby who can come soon and do the job properly.
That shapes how SEO for tradies works. Google shows map results and organic results based on what was searched, where the searcher is and how well known each business is. For urgent jobs, people often call one of the first businesses they see. For bigger jobs, they compare reviews, photos and past work first.
So the goal is not traffic. It is calls and enquiries for the jobs you want, in the suburbs you want to work in. A plumber who wants more hot water installs needs different pages from one chasing blocked drains. A builder chasing extensions needs different proof from one who wants commercial fit-outs.
SEO is also slower than paid ads. Google Ads can put you in front of searchers this week. Organic visibility builds over months and does not charge you for each click. Many trades businesses use both.
Google Business Profile and reviews come first
For local trades, the map results are often the first thing a searcher sees, and your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear there. Google's own guide to improving your local ranking says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence.
Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. It comes from the right primary category, accurate services and a clear description of the work you do. Distance is how far you are from the searcher, which you cannot change. Prominence is how well known you are, including reviews and the websites that link to you.
Google is also clear that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Anyone selling a guaranteed spot in the map results is selling something Google says does not exist.
A strong trade profile usually has:
- A primary category, and secondary categories, that match the jobs you want.
- Services, service areas and opening hours that are accurate and complete.
- Photos of real jobs, vans and the team, not stock images.
- A simple routine for asking happy customers for a review after each job.
- Replies to reviews, including the occasional bad one.
- Name, address and phone details that match your website and key directories.
If you work from home or from a van, Google lets you hide your address and list your service areas instead. That keeps your privacy without taking you out of local results.
A page for each service, and suburb pages that earn their place
Your website does a different job from your profile. It carries your services beyond the map results and gives buyers the detail they need to choose you. For most trades, that starts with one page per core service.
A good service page says what the job involves, where you do it, roughly how long it takes and what happens after someone calls. It shows real photos, licence details where relevant and reviews from that kind of job. It makes calling or booking easy on a phone.
Suburb pages are where many trade websites go wrong. Copying one page fifty times and swapping the suburb name does not help. Google's spam policies treat near-identical pages made to rank for similar searches as doorway pages.
A suburb page earns its place when it says something true and useful about that area. That might be the jobs you do there most, the typical housing, access or parking notes, travel times or local projects you can show. Build them only for areas you genuinely serve, and link each one to the right service pages.
This is the same service and location structure described on our SEO services page, scaled to the size of your business. If you work across Melbourne, our SEO agency Melbourne page explains how local search changes from suburb to suburb.
SEO for plumbers, builders, electricians and other trades
The principles are the same across trades. The searches, the urgency and the proof buyers want are not. Our trades and home services overview shows how that buying journey runs.
SEO for plumbers
Plumbing searches split into emergencies and planned work. Blocked drains, burst pipes and no hot water need a fast answer and a phone number that is easy to find.
Hot water replacements, bathroom renovations and gas fitting get compared on reviews and licensing. Separate pages for the jobs you want more of, plus clear after-hours details if you offer them, do most of the work. Local SEO for plumbers leans heavily on the map results, so the profile comes first.
SEO for builders and construction companies
Building work is higher value and slower to decide. People planning extensions, new homes or fit-outs research for weeks and compare several builders. They want finished projects, the process, typical timeframes and who they will deal with.
SEO for builders centres on project pages, clear service pages and answers to early questions about cost drivers, permits and timelines. For construction companies selling to developers or businesses, it looks more like B2B SEO: capability, sectors, safety and tender-ready proof.
SEO for electricians and other trades
Electricians, roofers, landscapers, painters, locksmiths and pest controllers follow a similar pattern. Some searches are urgent and local, and others are planned and compared. The mix decides the balance between your profile, your service pages and your project proof.
Show licence or registration details clearly, because buyers look for them and some regulators require them in advertising. For seasonal trades, plan pages ahead of your busy months, because new pages take time to be found.

Questions tradies ask about SEO
How much does SEO for tradies cost?
The first 30-minute audit is free. Ongoing SEO starts from A$1,100 per month ex GST on an initial 90-day term, then 30 days' notice. The final fee depends on how many services and areas you want to cover, and it is confirmed in writing first.
Is a Google Business Profile enough without a website?
A profile alone can bring calls, especially for urgent jobs close to your base. A website adds service pages, suburb coverage and proof that a profile cannot hold. It also gives you somewhere to send people from ads, quotes and social media.
How long until SEO brings more calls?
Profile fixes can be picked up quickly, while service pages and authority take months. It depends on your competition, your website's condition and how many reviews you already have. We set a baseline first and report calls and enquiries against it.
Can you get my business into the Google map results?
Nobody can promise that. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. We work on the things Google says it uses, relevance and prominence, and report the calls and enquiries that follow.
Should I build a page for every suburb?
Only for areas you genuinely serve and can say something useful about. Near-identical suburb pages can do more harm than good. Start with your core services and your strongest areas, then add suburbs as you have real jobs and proof to show.
Should I run Google Ads at the same time?
If you need calls this month, Google Ads can fill the gap while SEO builds. The search terms in your ads also show which jobs and suburbs deserve their own pages. Our Google Ads management is measured the same way, in calls and booked jobs.
Do you work with tradies outside Melbourne?
Yes. We are based in Melbourne and work with service businesses Australia-wide. Local SEO is set up around wherever your service areas are.
